OUR HISTORY
"The Dog Days Are Over" - performed in Feb. 2011. Our opener for MF's 2011 ICCA appearance.
Mizzou Forte is the University of Missouri's premier co-ed a cappella group, officially recognized by the University in the spring of 2005.
When founder Michael Chesney began at MU in the fall of 2004, there was no a cappella and nowhere for students to sing outside of the typical choral setting provided by the School of Music. Chesney, along with founding members Caroline Gable and Jenni Hanley, spent his freshman year fixing that. By the spring, they had found five more members, and Mizzou Forte was born.
The group's goal has always been to offer a different sound than anyone in Columbia, Mo. has ever heard before. Made up of people from all majors, Mizzou Forte is an excellent representation of the love for music that exists within the Mizzou community. The membership fluctuates each semester, with approximately 10 to 18 singers at any one time. Mizzou Forte holds auditions in the fall and spring to fill open spaces.
"Where I Stood" - performed in April 2011. This smooth ballad was arranged by former music director Steven Chaitman.
Performances have taken the group to KOMU-TV 8, Olympic swimming qualifiers and other various MU sporting events, the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, Truman State's Whisper in Your Ear, MU's annual Tap Day, various MU graduation ceremonies, ad campaigns for the Missouri State Lottery, the Dance Marathon, Relay for Life, the Shamrock Society, Project Sol Benefit Concert, Dream Outside the Box, Show-Me A Cappella (which has raised thousands of dollars for local childrens charities) and Mizzou Night for the Arts fundraisers.
MF's cover of Ben Folds' "You Don't Know Me" has nearly 20,000 views. This recording was entered into a contest sponsored by Ben Folds to find some sweet a cappella groups from around the country.
